About Curves

Founded in 1992 by Gary and Diane Heavin, Curves International is a pioneering fitness franchise designed for women. Originally launched in Harlingen, Texas and now headquartered in Waco, Texas, Curves operates under several names including Curves for Women and Curves Fitness. The brand expanded rapidly and developed a presence on nearly every continent. Curves is known for its 30-minute fitness circuit, combining resistance and cardiovascular training. Participants rotate through hydraulic machines that target various muscle groups, followed by aerobic recovery stations. This setup enables a full-body workout in a short time, ideal for women balancing work, family, and personal health. At its height, Curves had over 10,000 locations worldwide, with around two-thirds in the U.S. As of 2019, only 367 locations remain active in the United States, but the brand still thrives through innovation. Many franchises now offer nutritional programs, meal planning, coaching, and exercise gear. Curves gyms are typically women-only, though some sites admit male members. Pricing varies by location but commonly includes a $75 enrollment fee and a three- or six-month agreement. Weekly fees are about $12.95, or $45-$50 monthly. Extended contracts may offer reduced pricing. To cancel your Curves membership, use the step-by-step guide we’ve included.
